Rita Tognini was born in Lombardy, Italy and migrated to Western Australia with her parents. She writes poetry and short fiction. Rita’s poetry explores the relationship between language, landscape and identity, the intersection of the personal and the political and the complexities of family ties.
Her work has been published in Three in the Campagna and in journals such as Australian Poetry Anthology, Cordite, Creatrix, Cuttlefish, Fremantle Arts Review, Imago, Overland, Landscapes: the Journal of the International Centre for Landscape and Language, Uneven Floor and Westerly. Rita’s poetry has won prizes and commendations e.g., 2015 Katharine Susannah Prichard Poetry Award (Second Prize), 2016 Peter Cowan Writers’ Centre (PCWC), Patron’s Prize (Highly Commended), 2018 Ros Spencer Poetry Prize (Commended). In 2018 she was selected for the PCWC Emerging Writer Program. Rita has worked as a teacher and as a public servant. She has a Ph.D in Applied Linguistics and is bilingual. |
